Lion of Judah Speaks: Haftarah Portion – Ezekiel 38:18-39:16

If biblical prophecy teaches us anything, it is that Adonai is in complete control of human history and events. As we study Adonai’s prophetic word-fulfilled Bible, prophecy provides the evidence of an all-knowing, all-present Yah. II Peter 1:21, “For prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of Yah spoke as they were moved by the Ruach HaKodesh”. Adonai reveals Himself through His Word and reveals He is the One and only true Yah. As we look at all that is happening around us, we see the unfolding of Adonai’s plan for mankind’s fate and His redemptive plan for His people. The Word of YHVH has spoken prophecies that have been fulfilled and some yet unfolding. These unfulfilled ancient biblical predictions of these last days appear to be imminent, which means they could happen as I am writing this haftorah. Whether they are minor or major prophecies there are no remaining preconditions inhibiting them from happening.

One such prophecy can be found in Ezekiel 38 and 39, which concerns what is called the War of Gog and Magog. Every prophecy is given so that we will not be in the dark of what things are to unfold. Prophecies benefit and protect us from this latter-day drama that is upon us by keeping us abreast of the events. Noah warns of a flood, Joseph proclaims a 7 year plenty swallowed by a 7-year famine. Jeremiah warns about 70 years of desolation. So those timely predictions enabled them to prepare in advance for the powerful events of their day.

In this understanding, how will Ezekiel 38 and 39, the War of Gog and Magog affect us and what do we need to prepare ourselves for in view of this prophecy? This unveiled prophecy of Ezekiel given to him by Adonai reveals the future of the nation of Israel. We are about to experience the unfolding of the prophetic fall feasts as they point to the 2nd Coming of Yeshua…one of the most prophetic episodes in our history. Ezekiel 38 and 39 contain some of the most descriptive and easy to understand biblical predictions. Ezekiel describes the epic end time events through which Adonai will notify the world that He is the One true Yah. One of the key verses is Ezekiel 39:7-8 that states, “So I will make My holy name known in the midst of My people Israel, and I will not let them profane My holy name anymore. The nations shall know that I am Adonai, the Holy One in Israel. Surely it is coming, and it shall be done, says Adonai. This is the day of which I have spoken”.

We find in Ezekiel 36 and 37 the promise to regather Israel out of all the countries of the world where they were dispersed and bring them home. Like dry bones, brought back into a living person, Israel indeed became a nation once again in 1948. However, Yah is not done unveiling the future of Israel to Ezekiel and the world because in Ezekiel 38 and 39 it portrays a trial=the Gog-Magog Battle- a trial that would cause Israel to truly come alive in Yeshua HaMashicah.

Ezekiel 38 reveals that an “evil plan” is established creating a formidable strategic coalition, composed of hostile nations, in order to invade Israel for the sake of material gain. The purpose is to “plunder and to take booty” and attack the people of Israel (Ezekiel 38:12-16). Their massive invasion by a seemingly invincible army, with all their weapons of mass destruction locked and loaded on an unprotected Israel ends up surprising the invaders and shocking the world. There is a “great earthquake in the land of Israel” and the magnitude will cause all men upon the face of the whole earth to “shake”. Mountains will crumble and walls will fall.

These nations are in effect, being manipulated by Adonai, pulled out of their lands as with “hooks in their jaws”, so that those nations feel the Sovereign Yah’s fury. They will know “He is Adonai”! As the nations all around the world watch and see the devastation of this earthquake, Ezekiel 38:21 tells us, “Every man’s sword will be against his brother”. This horrific panic causes the troops to begin to attack each other. However, Adonai is not finished, flooding rain, great hailstones, fire and brimstone begin to be poured out. By the time all the supernatural events conclude, Magog invaders are destroyed, the world is in shock as they watch on T.V, Israel is counting their blessings and praising the Yah of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. This supernatural victory allows Yah to reintroduce Himself to the world and declare in no uncertain terms that YHVH is personally defending Israel. Adonai’s silences His unbelieving critics and the world recognizes that Israel is not an occupying country that exists upon disputed territories.

Ezekiel 39:9-10 proclaims that the weapons of the enemy will make fire for them for seven years. This picture is of energy provision for the entire nation, these weapons most likely include nuclear, biological, and chemical. Gog’s graveyard east of the Dead Sea will be massive, it will cause traffic jams for those traveling through the region, as it takes 7 months to bury the dead and cleanse the land.

The Gentile nations will finally understand why Israel experienced such turbulent and violent history, Ezekiel 39: 23- 29 says, “And the nations will know that the people of Israel were into exile for their sin, because they were unfaithful to me. So, I hid my face from them and handed them over to their enemies, and they all fell by the sword. I dealt with them according to their uncleanness and their offenses, and I hid my face from them. Therefore, this is what the Sovereign Yah says, I will now restore the fortunes of Jacob and will have compassion on all the people of Israel, and I will be zealous for my holy name. They will forget their shame and all the unfaithfulness they showed toward me when they lived in safety in their land with no one to make them afraid. When I have brought them back from the nations and have gathered them from the countries of their enemies, I will be proved holy through them in the light of many nations. Then they will know that I am the Lord their Yah, for though I sent them into exile among the nations, I will gather them to their own land, not leaving any behind. I will no longer hide my face from them, for I will pour out my Ruach on the people of Israel, declares the Sovereign Yah.” Israel’s final state of joy and security will overshadow their shame. Israel will enjoy safety, a relationship with Adonai and Yah’s Ruach.

HalleluYah…Yah’s face will no longer be hidden, His Ruach will be poured out on the House of Israel…can I get an Amen!
